Advanced Orthopedic Care for Pets
Orthopedic conditions can make even the smallest daily activities difficult, and early intervention can prevent long-term pain. Our Kenosha veterinarians perform a wide range of orthopedic surgeries designed to restore stability, relieve discomfort, and protect long-term joint health. Every pet’s needs are different, and we take the time to tailor treatment to their age, breed, lifestyle, and specific condition.
Below is an overview of the orthopedic procedures we offer.
Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries are among the most common mobility problems in dogs. When the ligament tears, the knee becomes unstable, painful, and prone to arthritis. Depending on your pet’s size, build, and activity level, we may recommend a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO), Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA), or a Tightrope procedure. Each technique strengthens the knee by stabilizing the joint in a different way, allowing for a more natural gait and faster, more predictable recovery. Our veterinarians will walk you through the options to determine which approach best suits your pet’s needs.
FHO surgery is an effective option for pets experiencing severe hip pain caused by trauma, arthritis, or hip dysplasia. By removing the damaged portion of the femur, this procedure eliminates bone-on-bone contact, allowing a “false joint” to form. For many small and medium-sized pets, an FHO offers significant pain relief and an excellent return to mobility.
Fractures vary widely, from small cracks to complete breaks, and each requires a specific repair method. We offer both internal and external skeletal fixation to align the bone properly so it can heal in the correct position. Internal fixation may involve plates, pins, or screws placed surgically beneath the skin, while external fixation uses supportive hardware outside the body. No matter the method, our goal is to restore normal bone function and prevent long-term complications.
Although the idea can feel overwhelming, amputations can be life-changing (in a positive way) for pets who are suffering from chronic pain or extensive injury. Animals adapt incredibly well to three legs, and our team is committed to ensuring they recover safely, comfortably, and confidently.
